Carlos Correa knows this will be his final season with the Houston Astros. It’s surprising to hear him be so up front about his contract status.

Correa has received nothing but insulting contract offers from the Astros front office in negotiations, so this is either his way of turning up the heat or being frank with a fanbase who has done nothing but support him for years.

It’s been speculated for quite some time that this would be Correa’s last season in Houston, as he’s due to be part of an impressive market of free agent shortstops. Correa’s been linked with former manager AJ Hinch in Detroit, as the two could reunite with the young Tigers rounding into form towards the end of 2021.

Rumors aside, it’s a sad end of an era for a homegrown player the Astros simply don’t intend to afford.

Houston Astros: Carlos Correa says goodbye

Correa said goodbye early on Wednesday in an article by The Athletic.

“My last year with the Astros,” Correa said. “Hopefully we can win another championship and I can leave this great organization with two of them.”

While Houston has several in-system replacements nearing Major League status to replace Correa, expect the Astros to at least sign a respectable stopgap option in the meantime. Even without Correa, Houston should be in contention for the AL West next season.
