Packers WR Devin Funchess out for 2021 in blow for Green Bay
Unfortunate news has arrived for the Green Bay Packers, as wide receiver Devin Funchess will miss the 2021 season.
The Devin Funchess comeback is over before it could get underway for the Green Bay Packers. Funchess, who hasn’t been in action on Sundays since 2019, suffered a hamstring injury in joint practices with the New York Jets last week.
On Wednesday, it was announced that things are so serious, Funchess has been placed on Injured Reserve. Just like that, the veteran receiver is out for the 2021 campaign. You’ve simply got to feel for him.
Devin Funchess is out for the 2021 season due to a hamstring injury
While Funchess struggled a little bit at the start of training camp for Green Bay, he looked sharp in the preseason contest going up against the Houston Texans earlier this month. In that game, Funchess hauled in six balls for 70 yards. It gave fans hope for what he’d be able to accomplish this fall and winter for the offense.
Unfortunately for him, Funchess indeed went down during practice last week and had to be carted off the field. At first, the hope was that’d be able to not miss a significant amount of time. We now know that won’t be the case.
After four years with the Panthers to start his career, Funchess joined the Colts in 2019. However, he suffered a serious clavicle injury in the first game of the season that year and wasn’t able to get back on the gridiron. After not playing last season either, Funchess was ready to ball out catching the ball from Aaron Rodgers.
Instead, he’s suffered yet another setback for his NFL playing days. Now, we’ll have to wait until 2022 to see what Funchess can do with the ball in his hands.
