Oklahoma running back Tre Bradford, who transferred in from LSU, is leaving the Sooners just one week before the start of the season.

If you thought the wildness of the transfer portal would die down with the 2021 season only a week away, think again.

Oklahoma running back Tre Bradford has left the program after transferring in from LSU in June, according to Jason Kersey of The Athletic.

Short of a surprise development, the Sooners will begin the season with two scholarship running backs on the roster.

Kersey’s reporting continued with speculation that Bradford may want to return to LSU.

“There has been some speculation that Bradford might want to go back to LSU. I’m told that NCAA rules allow a player to transfer back to his original school with possible immediate eligibility — so long as the player hasn’t completed 14 practices with his new school,” Kersey tweeted.

Brody Miller, also of The Athletic, tweeted that Bradford reached out to LSU players about reconsidering his decision.

Oklahoma’s running back situation has changed significantly since last season. Rhamondre Stevenson left for the NFL, T.J. Pledger transferred to Utah and Seth McGowan and Mikey Henderson were dismissed from the team. Meanwhile Marcus Major is academically ineligible to play this season.

The Sooners added Eric Gray from Tennessee while Bradford was going to help fill out the unit. Gray and Kennedy Brooks are the only scholarship rushers left. Walk on Todd Hudson is the only running back to get a carry last year remaining.

Bradford had 58 yards on 10 carries as a freshman with the Tigers in 2020.
