Deshaun Watson trade rumors: 4 teams reportedly in mix
By Scott Rogust
In Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson’s bombshell report, there are four teams in the mix for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
There is a ton of uncertainty surrounding the status of Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson due to the multiple sexual assault allegations from over 20 women, which is currently being investigated by the FBI, Harris County prosecutor and Houston Police Department.
Even with this, there are teams still calling the Texans front office to acquire Watson, as evidenced by a bombshell report from Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports.
According to Robinson, the Miami Dolphins have emerged as frontrunners for Watson in trade talks with the Texans. Other teams in “some element of trade consideration” include the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
Dolphins, Panthers, Broncos, Eagles reportedly in mix for Deshaun Watson
The Texans are reportedly seeking three first-round draft picks and two second-rounders for any team interested in acquiring Watson, per Robinson. Additionally, teams were “angling” for draft pick protection in case Watson were to get suspended by the league or criminally prosecuted for the aforementioned sexual assault allegations.
The Dolphins do carry a ton of draft capital, but what does that mean for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who the team drafted with the fifth-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft?
Carolina was a bit of a surprise, considering they acquired former New York Jets signal caller Sam Darnold earlier this offseason. Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network confirmed Robinson’s trade report, but added that the Panthers are not viewed as major players for Watson.
The Broncos had a quarterback battle this offseason between Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater. The former Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and Panthers signal caller was named the Week 1 starter for their game against the New York Giants.
Ironically, the Eagles did complete a quarterback trade hours before this report from Robinson, as they acquired former Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback Gardner Minshew, placing him behind Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco on the quarterback depth chart.
This story will be one to follow as the start of the 2021 regular season is just days away.
