Dolphins are reportedly ‘frontrunners’ in Deshaun Watson trade rumors

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly the frontrunners in trade discussions with the Miami Dolphins for quarterback Deshaun Watson.

All of the talk surrounding Houston Texans training camp has been on quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has requested a trade and is dealing with multiple sexual assault allegations.

Recently, there have been conflicting reports as to whether the Texans would even consider picking up the phone for other teams interested in acquiring the quarterback. As it turns out, they have been, and there is a frontrunner in trade talks.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the Miami Dolphins have emerged as the frontrunner in trade discussions with the Texans for Watson. A team that dropped out of trade negotiations informed Robinson that Houston is looking for three first-round draft picks and two second-rounders in talks.

Additionally, Robinson mentions in his tweet thread that teams “angled” for draft pick protection in case Watson were to be suspended by the NFL or criminally prosecuted by the FBI, Harris County prosecutor or the Houston Police Department in regards to the multiple sexual assault allegations from over 20 women.

The Dolphins carry the lead in trade negotiations since Watson does have to approve of the trade destination. Other teams that were “in some element of trade consideration” with the Texans include the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos, per Robinson.

With the 2021 NFL season rapidly approaching, it looked as though the team had full confidence in Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback. This latest report indicates otherwise.
