Nebraska had a poor start to the 2021 season, and Twitter users already have head coach Scott Frost on the hot seat.
The 2021 college football season officially kicked off on Saturday, and one of the first games featured Illinois taking on Nebraska. This is an important year for the program, especially for head coach Scott Frost, who had a 12-20 start to his tenure.
Things did not go great for the Cornhuskers, as they lost 30-22 to the Fighting Illini. If you believed that Frost would be let off easily by Twitter users, you are sadly mistaken. Frost is officially on Twitter’s hot seat.
Scott Frost officially on Twitter’s hot seat after Nebraska’s loss to Illinois
Nebraska’s first half included a safety, a missed PAT, two huge personal fouls and fumble returned for a TD. Scott Frost’s putative “best team at Nebraska” trails Illinois and its backup QB 16-9 at halftime. It’s fine.

I think it’s official that Scott Frost needed UCF way more than UCF needed Scott Frost

Scott Frost might be fired during this quarter.

Scott Frost has spent 3 years talking about culture change and changing things. Now, same mistakes as year one. Bret Bielema’s first game at Illinois and he’s thoroughly out-coaching Frost after his starting QB left with injury. Crunch time for NE. See how they respond.

Illinois has run off 28 straight and is running Nebraska out of the building--and doing it with their back-up QB. Hell of a debut for Bret Bielema. Art Stikowski has been clutch. Disaster at this point for Scott Frost.

Things got off to a disastrous start for the Cornhuskers, as they botched a punt return, resulting in safety to give Illinois an early 2-0 lead.
Nebraska would respond in the form of a two-yard rushing touchdown from Markese Stepp and a 27-yard field goal from Conor Culp to give them a 9-2 lead. However, Illinois immediately responded by going on a 28-0 run. 14 of those points came from backup quarterback Artur Sitkowski, who entered the game following a bad-looking injury to starter Brandon Peters.
But in the second half, quarterback Adrian Martinez single-handedly bailed out Frost after leading the Cornhuskers to two touchdown drives. He rushed for a 75-yard score in the third quarter and threw a four-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Oliver Martin to cut their deficit to 30-22. But it was too little, too late, as Illinois ran out the clock to secure the victory over Nebraska.
Frost will look to get Nebraska back on track next Sunday, when they take on Fordham.
