Texans mass exodus continues with Shaq Lawson trade
The Houston Texans have just traded veteran outside linebacker Shaq Lawson over to the New York Jets.
While all eyes are on whether or not the Houston Texans will end up trading quarterback Deshaun Watson, the front office is busy making a different move on Sunday. That’s because a stud pass-rusher is heading to the AFC East.
According to Adam Schefter, the Texans have traded 27-year-old EDGE Shaq Lawson to the New York Jets. With the Texans clearly in a rebuild and wanting a true fresh start, Lawson is the latest player to be sent out of town.
Pass-rusher Shaq Lawson is on his way to the New York Jets
Lawson will be tasked with replacing New York Jets pass-rusher Carl Lawson, who ruptured his left achilles tendon.
The 27-year-old has 20.5 career sacks, with his best season coming during his time in Buffalo, ironically, where he racked up 6.5 sacks. With two years and $9.8 million left on his deal, Lawson becomes a very affordable starting outside linebacker for Robert Saleh and Co.
Carl Lawson had a great start to training camp prior to the injury, making for a brutal update for Jets fans who were hoping for an improved defensive unit this coming season.
A new coaching staff and quarterback could make for a struggle in Saleh’s first year. Jets fans must be patient.
