Seahawks bring former University of Washington CB home in trade with Jaguars

On Monday, the Seattle Seahawks made a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to acquire former University of Washington standout cornerback Sidney Jones. 

While cornerback Sidney Jones may be from West Covina, Calif., you better believe he’ll always be loved by folks in Seattle after his standout days with the Washington Huskies. Now, those same folks in the Pacific Northwest will be able to cheer him on once again.

On Monday, it’s been announced that the Seattle Seahawks have gone out and acquired the cornerback from the Jacksonville Jaguars. A second-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, Jones is now getting ready to suit up for his third organization.

For all the Huskies fans who loved watching Jones play for UW, a return to the Seattle area to play for the Seahawks sure has to be exciting. In the 2017 NFL Draft, Jones fell to the second round, but he was widely expected to be taken on the first night.

During Washington’s Pro Day, on the last drill, Jones tore his Achilles and had to be carted off the field. It was a heartbreaking injury for the defensive back, but he’s been able to bounce back from that and played well early on in the league.

After spending the first three years of his career with the Eagles, Jones joined the Jaguars last year. In 2020, he played in nine games, making six starts for Jacksonville. On the year, the 6-foot-0, 180-pounder posted 26 tackles and two interceptions.

Now, he’ll undoubtedly be pumped up to keep his playing days going back in the same city where he was such a stud in college. This feels like a big-time win for the Seahawks and general manager John Schneider.
