Cam Newton’s first statement after getting released by Patriots: ‘Don’t feel sorry for me’

Cam Newton is taking the news of his release from the New England Patriots in stride.

Hours after being released by the New England Patriots and his NFL future in question, Cam Newton is trying to remain positive.

Newton posted a story to his Instagram where he thanked everyone for the support and didn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him.

“I really appreciate all the love and support during this time but I must say please don’t feel sorry for me. I’m good,” Newton wrote.

What’s next for the former NFL MVP?

Newton may find it difficult to find a home this season. After losing the quarterback job to Mac Jones, the Patriots releasing Newton instead of trying to trade him for anything of value suggests the rest of the NFL isn’t interested in the former No. 1 overall pick.

Additionally, there are factors beyond his on-field play that could limit the suitors for the former Auburn star that won a Heisman and national title in 2010.

Newton is unvaccinated and teams are going to be cautious about welcoming in unvaccinated players unless it’s a superstar and that’s not who Newton is at this stage of his career.

This doesn’t necessarily mean this is the end of the road for Newton and retirement is on the horizon, but it could mean we don’t see Newton on the field again until 2022.
