The New York Mets stormed back in the ninth inning to defeat the Miami Marlins, with Javy Baez scoring the winning run.

Baez, of course, was the figurehead in the team’s controversy this past week in regards to his thumbs down signal, which was meant to symbolize booing the Mets fanbase. In response, Baez was booed thusly in his only at-bat of the night, in which he reached base on a hit by pitch.

Javy would come around to score in a thrilling comeback victory in the ninth inning. Has he made it up to Mets fans entirely? Likely not. But it’s a start.

Thumbs up for winning.

New York Mets: Javy Baez has a long way to go to rebuild trust

Baez may not have enough time remaining as a Met to rebuild trust in the fanbase, but if anything Tuesday afternoon speaks to the ebs and flows of being a professional baseball player in New York. One day, the press is all over you. The next, you’re the hero.

To his credit, Javy apologized pregame for his remarks to the fans, stating he didn’t mean to offend anyone. While that’s not necessarily good enough, it’s sure better than sticking to his guns.
