No one could find Javy Baez’s lost earring near home plate at Citi Field
By Scott Rogust
Following their walk-off win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, the New York Mets are having trouble finding second baseman Javier Baez’s earring.
New York Mets second baseman Javier Baez has had himself quite the Tuesday. Days after he revealed that the team’s thumbs down celebration was their response to the booing fanbase during their skid down the NL East standings, Baez apologized prior to the Mets’ resumed game against the Miami Marlins, which had been previously suspended.
Then, Baez turned those thumbs downs from the fans in attendance into thumbs ups.
Baez scored the game-winning run on a single by outfielder Michael Conforto to help the Mets earn the 6-5 win over the rival Marlins. Immediately after Baez slid home and began celebrating with his teammates, he looked on the ground for his lost earring.
Everyone was looking for Baez’s jewelry, even Mets president Sandy Alderson!
Javir Baez provides an update on his lost earring
With their being a scene on the field regarding the status of Baez’ lost earring, everyone needed an update on the search. During their second game against the Marlins on Tuesday, Baez walked over to the SNY cameras and revealed that they had found the back of his earring. However, he believes that the diamond fell deep into the ground.
Speaking of Baez, after his hustling on the base paths allowed the Mets to secure the walk-off victory, the fans for the night game gave the infielder a much more positive reception than what he received earlier in the day.
Baez helped ease the backlash from the Mets faithful with his late game heroics. And he did so by sacrificing his earring on his slide home. We shall see if the diamond can be found on the Citi Field diamond at the conclusion of Thursday’s game.
