Oklahoma vs. Tulane prediction, odds, spread, line, over/under & betting info for NCAA Week 1
The Oklahoma Sooners face Tulane on Saturday in Norman and we have odds, predictions, betting lines, how to watch and everything you need for the game.
The Oklahoma Sooners have immense expectations for the 2021 college football season. Lincoln Riley’s team is not just one of the favorites to make it to the College Football Playoff but they are a legitimate threat to win the National Championship. That campaign begins on Saturday, Sept. 4 as they take on the Tulane Green Wave.
Quarterback Spencer Rattler is back for his second season leading the Oklahoma offense and he’s surrounded by elite weapons. Marvin Mims leads the wide receiver group but he’s far from alone while the backfield is stacked with Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray. Even better, this might be the best Sooners defense since Riley took over.
Tulane shouldn’t pose much of a threat for the Sooners on Saturday but, at the end of the day, every game matters and they can’t take anyone lightly. They’ll want to get things clicking right away. Moreover, this game was moved from New Orleans to Norman due to the effects of Hurricane Ida.
Let’s take a look at the odds, make some predictions and break down everything fans need to know for the Oklahoma Sooners season opener.
Oklahoma vs. Tulane Odds Week 1
- Point Spread: Oklahoma -31.5 (-105)
- Moneyline: N/A
- Over/Under Total: 68.5 (-110 each side)
- Odds via WynnBet
As expected, the Sooners are heavy favorites in this game, favored to win at home by more than five touchdowns. The line is so weighted towards OU that the oddsmakers aren’t even putting a moneyline on it. But if the line is that high, it makes the total look a bit strange. Sitting at 68.5, that implies the Sooners are going to score a ton in this game. They’re more than capable, though, and might be looking to make an opening statement.
Oklahoma Injury Report vs. Tulane Week 1
There aren’t too many injuries to speak of for the Sooners coming into the season. Running back Marcus Major was ruled out for the season, though it’s due to academics and not an injury. A similar off-field situation could keep standout defensive lineman Isaiah Thomas out as he waits for any suspensions to be handed down for an incident away from football.
The only injury to speak of is that of veteran backup quarterback Spencer Jones. He’s questionable for the game but, truth be told, the backup is only going to see mop-up duty barring an injury to Rattler.
Oklahoma vs. Tulane Prediction Week 1
This shouldn’t be much of a game no matter where it’s played. Tulane isn’t on the level of most Power 5 programs, much less a national title contender. Not only will Rattler have his way through the air but the Green Wave likely won’t have an answer for Brooks and Gray in the run game. This is going to be a blowout.
But while I expect the Sooners to cover -31.5, I’m tentative with the total and lean to Under 68.5 as the Oklahoma defense will prove its merit and deliver a shutdown performance while the offense just won’t put enough points on the board to clear the lofty number.
Final Score: Oklahoma 58, Tulane 6

After the Tulane contest, the Sooners will get another warmup game in Norman as they take on Western Carolina, a program that has been a traditional annual punching bag for National Championship contenders. That game precedes a renewed rivalry with Nebraska, though the Huskers didn’t show anything in their opener to make you think they can challenge OU.
