The NFL world cannot believe the New England Patriots actually cut quarterback Cam Newton.
On the day when NFL rosters needed to be trimmed down to 53 men, the New England Patriots have parted ways with last year’s starting quarterback Cam Newton.
Jim McBride of the Boston Globe dropped this bombshell on all of us Tuesday morning. While the Patriots did use their first-round pick on Alabama football star Mac Jones last spring, one would have thought Newton would have served as the stop-gap starter in New England until Jones was ready. Now, Jones is expected to make his first career NFL start Week 1 vs. the Miami Dolphins.
Here is how Twitter is reacting to the news of Newton being cut by the Patriots in the 11th hour
Cam Newton released: How the NFL world is reacting to this bombshell news
Newton’s release was a combination of Jones looking impressive in the preseason and making the gap between the two look inconsequential.
As @globejimmcbride first reported, the Patriots have released QB Cam Newton. This means rookie Mac Jones is the starting quarterback.

Factor in Newton not being vaccinated for COVID-19 and having a misunderstanding about the protocols may play a big part here as well.
lol Cam Newton wouldn’t get vaxxed & now he’s cut. You hate to see it.

Ultimately, the future is now in Foxborough, as Bill Belichick has spoken that Jones is the heir apparent to Tom Brady in New England.
I hope the Patriots have another losing season, that’s wild how they did Cam Newton
