Abraham Toro proves the Seattle Mariners are victorious in the Kendall Graveman trade with the Houston Astros after one most glorious swing of the bat.

Abraham Toro was the difference for the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, as he took Kendall Graveman of the Houston Astros‘ offering deep into the night for a grand slam.

As Toro touched ’em all to give the M’s a deciding 4-0 lead over Houston, we began to realize he was the player the Astros sent to Seattle in exchange for the highly-coveted relief pitcher. To make things even better, this is apparently the first time in MLB history where a player hit a grand slam off the pitcher he was traded for in the same season he was dealt. No bull. I am dead serious here.

What a way to dance on the Astros’ grave, knowing that the Mariners won the Graveman trade.

Though the Astros still lead the AL West standings, what a way for the Mariners to pick up some slack in the divisional race. While the are 7.5 games back of Houston in the division, Seattle improved to 71-62 on the year and remain within striking of the collapsing Boston Red Sox for the second AL Wild Card spot. Seattle has not made the postseason since that magical 2001 season.

As we look bad on the highly controversial intra-divisional trade between the Astros and the Mariners, Toro’s big fly only adds madness to the overall narrative. Graveman was essentially brought to tears upon being traded in-division. His former teammates were livid the relief pitcher was dealt to the Astros. Then again, the Mariners may not have a sweeter victory than last night.

Toro clearly grabbed life by the horns to make darn sure his new team won the Graveman trade.
