Cardinals are one win away from granting Adam Wainwright’s birthday wish
By Mark Powell
As a Happy Birthday present to Adam Wainwright, the St. Louis Cardinals might sweep the Cincinnati Reds.
By doing so, the Cardinals would cut the difference between the two teams to just a half-game, and place their stamp on the race heading into what’s sure to be a wild September.
Wainwright turned 40 years old just yesterday, and told reporters on Tuesday that a great birthday present from his teammates would be sweeping the rival Reds. After a slow start to the season for St. Louis, they’ve come on strong of late, and look to be a real contender in the NL Wild Card race.
St. Louis Cardinals: Playoffs within reach in September
By facing a division rival in the Reds and taking — at the very least — two out of three on the road, the Cardinals are sending a message that they are here to stay in the Wild Card race.
While the NL Central appears to be a little out of reach, considering the Brewers are 12 games and counting ahead, St. Louis will take any result that leads them to October baseball.
