Manny Machado, Padres back Jayce Tingler for pulling Blake Snell early in no-no

Manny Machado defends San Diego Padres manager Jayce Tingler’s decision to pull Blake Snell while he was in the middle of throwing a no-hitter.

Nobody has defined getting pulled from a game early when they are dealing quite like Blake Snell has the last two seasons.

When Snell’s San Diego Padres were taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, he was mowing down snakes like he was Samuel L. Jackson on a plane. He struck out 10 while walking two over seven innings. Unfortunately for him, Snell’s pitch count got high, so it was understandable for his skipper Jayce Tingler to give them the Kevin Cash treatment after seven.

Even star infielder Manny Machado approved of Tingler pulling Snell after seven brilliant frames.

While Machado’s exact quote requires a pair of earmuffs for the kids, he does have a point. If the Padres want to advance past the NLDS this season, or the NL Wild Card round for that matter, they are going to need Blakezilla pitching like the beast he is. Though he struggles to pitch deep in games, he can get through the opposing lineup twice better than just about anybody these days.

Of course, the bullpen did not have the right stuff last night to give the Padres the combined no-hitter. San Diego still won 3-0, but the Padres bullpen surrendered three hits after Tingler removed Snell from the game. For a franchise that had not thrown a no-hitter in its existence prior to this season, it sure is interesting Tingler would spell Snell instead of letting him go the distance.

We all know that Snell is a big game pitcher, the Padres need him to be at his best come October.
