Josh Warrington tries to avenge his lone defeat against Mauricio Lara on Saturday, Sept. 4. Here’s what happened when he rewatched the loss.

No one was picking former IBF featherweight champion, Josh Warrington, to lose in February, except for his opponent Mauricio Lara. Lara scored a sensational upset TKO win, but Warrington is looking to even the score.

Warrington (30-1, 7 KOs) gets a second crack at Lara on Saturday, Sept. 4. He’ll have his hometown of Leeds, England, in his corner as he fights Lara at Headingley Rugby League Stadium. Warrington had the home country advantage in their first fight, but there was no audience in attendance.

Lara (23-2, 16 KOs) of Mexico is adept at being a road warrior after his last performance against Warrington. He dropped Warrington twice before the referee called off the fight after the last knockdown.

During a fight week media call, Josh Warrington shared his reaction to watching his loss to Mauricio Lara for the first time to FanSided

While talking during a fight-week media call, Warrington recalled his reaction to viewing the fight for the first time.

“What the f**king hell were you doing?” Warrington told FanSided. “What were you doing, Josh? That was my initial reaction. Just disappointed with myself more than anything.”

Warrington studied the film closely, even though it was a painful experience. He stated that he noticed many mistakes, and he doesn’t plan on making them again.

At 30 years old, Warrington is far from old, but he gives up seven years to the younger Lara. Warrington has experienced numerous battles throughout his 12-year professional boxing career. Every boxer has a maximum number of punches they can take before their punch resistance is permanently damaged.

Warrington feels that he’s far from spent.

“I thought to myself, am I at my peak?” said Warrington.

“I don’t think it’s so much of a decline of what happened to myself,” continued Warrington. “I feel fit. On paper and on my record, I’ve finished stronger than I ever have been. I’m experienced. I just think that a few things on the night weren’t right, and he took advantage of them. It’s as simple as that.”

Lara vs. Warrington was an entertaining fight, but Warrington looks to finish on top the second time around to earn his way back to a world title.
