The Clemson Tigers aren’t out of the College Football Playoff hunt despite losing to Georgia. They still have a straightforward path.

The 2021 season and post-Trevor Lawrence era opened with disappointment for Clemson. They lost to Georgia in a defensive slugfest, 10-3.

Losing the first game of the season is a blow to the Tiger’s College Football Playoff resumé, but it isn’t the end. Clemson can be the first team since 1983 Miami to lost its opener and win a national championship if they follow this path.

How Clemson can still make the College Football Playoff

The good news is it’ll get a lot easier than the Bulldogs as the schedule unfolds. Clemson needs to win out from here. They’ll be favored in just about every game they have left, including the ACC Championship Game. They should be able to get that part done.

The bit they have no control over is the four playoff spots. Along the way, the Tigers need Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State to pick up losses that pull them out of the playoff picture.

Georgia and Alabama will have to face off, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility for two SEC teams to make the CFP. Week 1 struggles for Oklahoma and Ohio State should boost positivity for the Tigers. The moment either of those teams lose, Clemson will be right back in the conversation.
