Here is why the Georgia football team is a very legit threat to Alabama’s SEC supremacy.

It was a good, old-fashioned rock fight, but Kirby Smart’s Georgia football team asserted its dominance on the defensive side of the ball to thwart ACC power Clemson in Charlotte, 10-3.

Not a single offensive touchdown was scored in the signature game of Labor Day weekend. A field goal on both sides were the only offensive production, while a Christopher Smith 74-yard pick-six of Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei was the deciding factor. Though Alabama looms large over in the SEC West, here are three reasons why the Dawgs are a very real threat to the Crimson Tide.

There is a decent possibility Georgia not challenged again until the Dawgs face Alabama in Atlanta for the 2021 SEC Championship.

Georgia football: 3 reasons why Dawgs are a legit threat to Alabama

3. Georgia has the running back stable to wear down the best of defenses

While it was not the primary reason why Georgia won this game, Dawg Nation has to feel ecstatic about having another strong stable of running backs. Zamir White‘s 74 yards led the Georgia rushing attack, but he got quality support from the likes of James Cook, Kenny McIntosh and Kendall Milton. If Georgia can stay healthy at running back, that will be tough news for Alabama.

2. The offense will improve once the skill-position players get healthy

Though it was a challenging evening for quarterback JT Daniels and the Georgia passing game, they were without a ton of key receivers. Yes, Brock Bowers look fantastic in his Georgia debut at tight end, but this receiving corps will be even better once the likes of Dominick Blaylock, Darnell Washington and even George Pickens make their returns. The offense will be considerably better.

1. This front-seven is as good as any Kirby Smart has ever had at Georgia

Besides the room for improvement offensively, the biggest reason why Alabama should view Georgia as a legitimate threat is how absurdly filthy this front-seven is. Uiagalelei spent half of the game on his back, as the Georgia pass rush was relentless. Jordan Davis is absolute monster at defensive tackle and Nakobe Dean was all over the place at linebacker for Georgia. They are elite.

This was an outstanding victory for Georgia, but certainly one Smart and his staff can build on.
