Oregon’s star pass rusher, Kayvon Thibodeaux, left Saturday’s game against Fresno State with a lower leg injury.
The Oregon Ducks were flying high in the early goings of their season-opening game against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Star pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux introduced himself early in the game after recording a vicious strip-sack on quarterback Jake Haener. However, Thibodeaux would later leave the game with a lower left leg injury and was spotted in a walking boot.
For those Ducks fans keeping their eyes peeled on Oregon’s matchup against Ohio State Buckeyes next weekend, we have an update from head coach Mario Cristobal.
After Oregon’s 31-24 victory, Cristobal revealed that Thibodeaux suffered a sprain to his left foot/ankle after getting rolled up on, and is optimistic that the injury is not too serious.
Kayvon Thibodeaux injury: Will Oregon football star be able to play Ohio State?
For those wondering if Thibodeaux will play against the Buckeyes next Saturday, it is simply too early to tell. The defensive end did receive an x-ray during the game, which Cristobal says came back negative.
The injury occurred in the first half, where he was rolled up on during a play. He walked off the field under his own power but was ruled out for the remainder of the game. But Ducks fans received quite the scare when seeing Thibodeaux don the walking boot on the sidelines in the second half.
In his limited playing time on Saturday, Thibodeaux logged two total tackles and one sack.
Not having Thibodeaux on the field did hurt Oregon against Fresno State, and it could harm them against Ohio State as well if he is deemed unable to go by the team. We will continue to keep you updated on Thibodeaux’s status leading up to the Sept. 11 matchup.
