College football overtime rules were tweaked for 2021 with teams forced to go for two-point conversions beginning in the second period.

The new rules will require teams to go for two-point conversions as soon as the second period of overtime is reached.

Previously, teams would go for two in the third overtime.

The third overtime period is now drastically different. Teams will alternate running two-point plays instead of trading off drives.

Think of something that resembles a soccer shoot out. Instead of taking penalty kicks, teams will have one play to beat the other.

The NCAA is trying to shorten games and prevent overtimes from being extended well into the night.
