College football rankings: Week 2 AP Top 25 poll – Alabama remains No. 1, Georgia up to No. 2
By John Buhler
Week 2 college football rankings are here and Alabama remains No. 1 in the new AP Top 25 poll and Georgia moves up to No. 2 after beating Clemson.
After seeing all the Week 1 college football games unfold last week, we now have a new AP Top 25 poll to sink our teeth into with Week 2’s action on the horizon.
Last week saw two top-10 teams fall with No. 3 Clemson losing to No. 5 Georgia in Charlotte, as well as No. 10 North Carolina falling to unranked Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. No. 9 Notre Dame needed overtime to hold off unranked Florida State in Tallahassee. The signature game of Week 2 will be for the CyHawk with in-state rivals Iowa and Iowa State duking it out in Ames on Saturday.
Here is what the AP Top 25 poll looks like heading into Week 2 of the 2021 college football season.
College Football Rankings: AP Top 25 poll, Week 2
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Clemson Tigers
- Cincinnati Bearcats
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Iowa State Cyclones
- Iowa Hawkeyes
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Oregon Ducks
- Florida Gators
- USC Trojans

- Wisconsin Badgers
- Virginia Tech Hokies
- Ole Miss Rebels

Alabama and Georgia being one-two comes as a surprise to absolutely no one. The Crimson Tide dominated the Miami Hurricanes in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff in Atlanta. The Dawgs defensive line manhandled Clemson in a good-old, fashioned rock fight in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte. Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M round out the top five spots heading into Week 2’s games.
The rest of the top 10 are in this order: Clemson falling down to No. 6, Cincinnati coming in at No. 7, Notre Dame sitting at No. 8, Iowa State dipping a bit down to No. 9 and Iowa moving up to No. 10. Unranked teams from Week 1 cracking the top 25 this week include No. 16 UCLA, No. 19 Virginia Tech, No. 20 Ole Miss and No. 25 Auburn. Miami and LSU are among those that fell out.
Here is to having a healthy debate or five about how the Associated Press voted ahead of Week 2.
