Fantasy Football: 5 players that could win your league in 2021
As we approach Week 1 of the NFL season, most fantasy leagues have drafted already. Keep reading to see if you’ve drafted a league-winner.
Week 1 of the NFL season kicks off Thursday, Sept. 9 with the Dallas Cowboys at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While most eyes will be on the actual football game, millions will be watching their fantasy teams begin scoring as another season begins.
While most leagues have drafted, many players are eager to see their teams perform and if they’ve hit that ‘lottery ticket’ of 2021 that will win you your leagues.
In analyzing these league-winning players, we’ll weigh draft value versus upside. Meaning, picking first round players that are obvious studs isn’t what we’re looking for. We’re trying to figure out if you made that pick that combines value and upside that could take you over the top.
Here are five players that could win you your fantasy league in 2021
5. Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Tyler Lockett has quietly put together back to back 1,000-yard seasons, while finishing just shy in 2018 with 965 yards. After being deemed ‘injury-prone’ at the beginning of his career, Lockett has become the go-to guy for Russell Wilson.
With the emergence of newly-drafted wideout D.K. Metcalf in 2020, Lockett still finished as fantasy’s WR11 in PPR leagues. Most people don’t remember just how good he was last year until they see the stats.
Lockett caught 100-of-132 targets for 1,054 yards and ten touchdowns. Those are WR1 numbers in fantasy football. The only reason why Lockett isn’t being drafted as such is because of Metcalf.
There’s no reason to think this passing attack will slow down this season, which means Lockett should provide excellent return at his current ADP of #54 (5th round).
I’m projecting a top-20 wide receiver finish for Lockett this season. While he may not match his 100-catch campaign from 2020, he should be a weekly WR2 option for your fantasy team this season.
