Here are Kirk Herbstreit’s top performing teams, players and coaches from Week 1’s action.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit was very impressed with these teams, players and coaches from Week 1 of the 2021 college football season.

Herbstreit spent the whole day Saturday in Charlotte for everything associated with Georgia vs. Clemson in the Duke’s Mayo Classic. Though not a single offensive touchdown was scored in the southeastern rivalry game, Herbstreit did a great job in the booth as he always does to bring this to life. He also had some downtime to evaluate what else was good happening in college football.

These teams, players and coaches really moved the needle for Herbstreit after Week 1’s action.

The eight teams that really resonated with Herbstreit from last week’s games were the UCLA Bruins, the Virginia Tech Hokies, Georgia, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Northern Illinois Huskies, the Charlotte 49ers, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the UTSA Roadrunners in that order. While the Alabama Crimson Tide are nowhere to be found, Herbstreit was all about honoring the underdog.
