5 keys for Chiefs to beat the Browns this Sunday
3. Stop Nick Chubb from dictating the game
The Chiefs’ defense gave up way too many rushing yards in 2020. Now they’re gearing up to face one of the best running backs in the NFL. What could possibly go wrong?
The biggest issue with facing the Browns offense is how many ways they can hurt you. It’s not as simple as shutting down Baker Mayfield, because that rushing offense is dangerous with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in the backfield.
How did it work out for Kansas City last time? It was actually okay even though Chubb and Hunt each rushed for 5.3 yards per carry. The Browns had just 112 rushing yards while the two rushers combined for 19 carries. That is the sweet spot.
In 2020, Cleveland was 11-0 in games with 30 or more rushing attempts. They were 1-6 with fewer than 30 attempts.
Essentially, the Chiefs can take Chubb and the ground attack out of the game by putting their foot on the gas early. Get out to a lead and force the Browns to chase.
