The Alabama Crimson Tide made a statement to the nation last week. Now they get to ease off the throttle against the Mercer Bears.

For any other team, a Week 1 matchup against ranked Miami might have been a potential hiccup. Not for Alabama football. The Crimson Tide easily dispatched the Hurricanes in yet another comfortably impressive season opener.

In Week 2, the opponent takes a drastically different shape in FCS Mercer, who went 5-6 last season.

The Bears started their season with a nice 69-0 victory over Point University. The trip to Bryant-Denny Stadium could produce an opposite scoreline.

Alabama vs. Mercer odds for Week 2

No line has been set for the game between the reigning national champions and their FCS opposition this week, as is custom for FBS vs. FCS matchups. Suffice it to say the Crimson Tide are big favorites in this one.

Alabama injury report vs. Mercer in Week 2

The Crimson Tide may have gotten out of Week 1 with a big one, but it wasn’t without cost. The linebacker corps took a hit with Christopher Allen suffering a season-ending foot injury.

Henry To’o To’o injury update

Linebacker Henry To’o To’o also had to come out of the game with Miami because of an injury. The good news is it shouldn’t keep him out in Week 2.

Alabama vs. Mercer prediction for Week 2

Sorry, Mercer, there’s only one possible outcome for this game. The Crimson Tide will easily control this game from start to finish while emptying the benches when they build up a big enough lead.

The only thing Nick Saban and company need to worry about is getting through it without any more serious injuries.

Prediction: Alabama 45-Mercer 7
