It’s time for Dan Mullen to bench Emory Jones for Anthony Richardson.

Dan Mullen has a decision to make that could determine whether Florida finishes behind Georgia in the SEC East standings or if they can repeat as division champs.

Mullen must consider benching quarterback Emory Jones in favor of Anthony Richardson.

After a so-so opener for Jones and some wow moments from Richardson, the quarterback controversy began to heat up in Gainesville.

But after the opening quarter-and-change vs. USF on Saturday, it’s clear that Richardson gives Florida the best chance to win.

It only took one pass for Richardson to show Mullen and Florida football fans that he’s the guy that makes the offense operate at a different level than under Jones.

Anthony Richardson should start over Emory Jones for Florida football

Richardson uncorked a 75-yard touchdown on his first pass of the game and that should mean Jones has already thrown his last pass of the game, and the last as the starting quarterback for the Gators.

Jones earned the chance to start the season after sitting behind Kyle Trask last season but it’s painfully obvious that he’s just not the answer under center. Richardson is the answer for the Gators to have a chance to get back to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game.

Richardson has the dual-threat ability that will be mandatory to have a shot against the dominating defense of Georgia. The sooner Richardson gets the starting job, the more reps he’ll have under his belt to take down Georgia.
