Kirk Herbstreit has so much faith in Georgia football’s defense he said the Bulldogs could punt on every possession and still win.
Georgia has questions at quarterback with JT Daniels out injured for the UAB game. Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t care at all.
The ESPN analyst is uber-confident in the Bulldogs and their ability to win even without their starter. And not just against UAB.
“With that defense, Georgia could punt every time they get the ball on 1st-and-10, and let the defense go out and play with the punt team, and they can win the rest of their games until they get to Auburn. I don’t care who’s quarterback. Bring somebody out of the stands and have them hand it off,” Herbstreit said via Dawn of the Dawg.
Kirk Herbstreit is a big fan of the Georgia football defense
Which schools should feel particularly slighted by that statement? UAB, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Arkansas. Those are the Bulldogs’ next four games before they take on Auburn on Oct. 9.
It’s a bold statement, but it’s not without merit. The Georgia defense shut down a Clemson offense that has averaged more than 40 points a game for three seasons running. Sure, the Tigers had a new quarterback at the helm, but the performance was exceptional.
Could they actually win with some random person from the stands handing the ball off? They have some excellent running backs to lean on though Kirby Smart has better options than that. If Daniels can’t play, Georgia would start Carson Beck or Stetson Bennet.
