Notre Dame Fighting Irish and college football fans were not too happy to find out that the team’s game against the Toledo Rockets on Saturday was only airing on the Peacock app.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish opened up their season with a thrilling, back-and-forth, overtime victory over the Florida State Seminoles. Following that win, Notre Dame fans were understandably looking forward to the team’s remaining games on the schedule. But there was one problem — the Fighting Irish’s game against the Toldeo Rockets was not on a national broadcast.
Notre Dame’s game against Toledo took place exclusively on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock. That meant fans had to sign up for a subscription to watch the Fighting Irish barely defeat the Rockets by the score of 32-29.
Many on Twitter were not pleased with the decision to air Notre Dame’s second game of the season on a streaming service, and a streaming service only.
Twitter users hated that Notre Dame’s game vs. Toledo only aired on Peacock
Go Irish I love Notre Dame never make me watch on Peacock again please

Notre Dame is just trying to get you to subscribe to Peacock. Don’t fall for it. pic.twitter.com/pNFw9LheBZ

Bold marketing strategy from Notre Dame, trailing Toledo at halftime and baiting millions of Americans to sign up for Peacock to hate-watch ...

Bigger problem for Notre Dame fans this week: Peacock or Toledo?

Notre Dame football selling out for peacock as they barely beat a MAC team in the final minute. Poverty status
— Stuckey (@Stuckey2) September 11, 2021
Well, Notre Dame games aren’t any faster on Peacock.

Have to admit that the opportunity to watch Notre Dame lose a MAC game is a more enticing carrot for Peacock than all 27 seasons of the office + bonus commentary could ever be

As you can see, many were not fooled by Notre Dame struggling against Toledlo to bring them to signing up for a Peacock subscription to watch the game, even though it ended in nail-biting fashion.
The Fighting Irish saw a 24-16 lead vanish in the fourth quarter following an eight-yard touchdown pass from Carter Bradley to running back Bryant Koback and a 26-yard touchdown run by Dequan Finn to give Toledo a late 29-24 lead. Yet, Notre Dame bounced back to take a 32-29 lead with over a minute remaining in regulation, thanks to a 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jack Doan to tight end Michael Mayer.
For those wondering, yes, Notre Dame’s game next week against the Purdue Boiler Makers will be available on Peacock. However, it will be broadcasted nationally on NBC. Almost got you there, didn’t we?
