Skip Bayless showed Ohio State and head football coach Ryan Day no mercy after the Buckeyes were upset at home by the Oregon Ducks.
In case anyone but Skip Bayless missed it, the Ohio State Buckeyes suffered a monumental upset at home against the Oregon Ducks. Behind CJ Verdellās remarkable performance, the Ducks earned their first-ever victory over the Buckeyes, having been 0-9 against them in their history, including the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship.
The Fox Sports 1 analyst and host of āUndisputedā undoubtedly tuned into the game and offered a scratching criticism of head coach Ryan Day after the 35-28 loss, their first regular-season home loss since 2017. Needless to say, like the showās opening theme, there was no mercy.
Ouch, thatās got to hurt. Especially with knocking THE from Ohio Stateās first name, a moniker held so dearly by the folks in Columbus. Bayless even mentioned that Oregon was without its best defensive player in Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was inactive due to injury. That makes the victory all the much sweeter for the Pac-12 visitors.
Additionally, Bayless is correct on the Buckeyesā defense getting exposed. For one, Verdell ran for over 160 yards and led the Ducks in receiving. Moreover, Oregon quarterback Anthony Brown didnāt put up gaudy numbers, unlike his counterpart CJ Stroud but played with poise, and as such, he walks away with the victory.
Skip Bayless can be a troll at times, but this tweet about Ohio State was well-timed and on point
However, Bayless neglected to mention how Ryan Dayās offense played quite well in defeat. Stroud, the newcomer behind current Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, tossed for 484 yards and three touchdowns. Stroud even had three players register over 100 yards in receiving. However, Stroud did throw a late-game interception to Verone McKinley III, effectively ending the game for the Buckeyes.
Regardless of what Bayless did or did not say, the Ducks are more than happy to claim this victory. This was five years in the making, against a team that denied them an opportunity to win a national championship and embarrassed them while doing so, with their ground game, then headed by Ezekiel Elliot. Now, it was Oregonās turn to enact some revenge, and they did so in remarkable fashion.
Today, like Bayless said, it just wasnāt Ryanās Day. The Buckeyes will likely bounce back and be back in contention for the Big 10 Championship, but a loss like this puts a damper on their College Football Playoff hopes just one year after reaching the National Championship.
