The Texas A&M Aggies may be one of the best teams in the country, but if you don’t know what A and M mean you’re not alone.

You may know a lot about Aggies football. You might know all about head coach Jimbo Fisher. You probably remember the heroics of Johnny Manziel.

But do you know what the A&M even means?

The A and M in Texas A&M stands for agriculture and mechanical

A is for agriculture and M is for mechanical. That first one might have been obvious given the fact they’re known as the Aggies. However, the M might have caused some confusion.

Texas A&M is a Senior Military College with a robust ROTC program. The M has never stood for the military though.

When the university was founded, it was called the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, or AMC. In 1963, they simplified the name to Texas A&M.
