Browns still have no idea how to win a Week 1 game
By John Buhler
It was a great effort, but the Cleveland Browns suffer a Week 1 loss for the 17th year in a row.
Even if the Cleveland Browns are still one of the better teams in the AFC, they have yet to solve the puzzle that goes along with winning a Week 1 game.
For a while there, we thought Cleveland was going to end the streak. The Browns had a sizable lead over the Kansas City Chiefs, in Arrowhead of all places, but collapsed in the second half to lose in heartbreaking fashion. While they have 16 more opportunities to prove they belong in the upper crust of the NFL, Cleveland must taste 0-1 for an unprecedented 17th loss in a row now.
Had Patrick Mahomes not been the best player in football in the second half, it may have ended.
Cleveland Browns still cannot win a Week 1 game for the life of them
Admittedly, nobody outside of Ohio really thought the Browns were going to go into Arrowhead and come out with a victory. It is no slight on Cleveland, but more of the reality of the Chiefs being the two-time reigning AFC champions. For now, the Chiefs have the head-to-head tiebreaker between these tow AFC contenders. Cleveland has now lost back-to-back games to Kansas City.
If the Chiefs really do have the Browns’ number, then so be it. It would not be the worst thing in the world. However, one would think that in some odd year the Browns would have won a Week 1 game since John Kerry ran for President. Though the Browns have done more than their fair share of losing since coming back into the league in 1999, this absurd Week 1 losing streak continues…
Maybe next year will be the year the Browns can start the season out with a W in the win column.
