College football bowl projections: Playoff rankings after Oregon beats Ohio State

The top four will be changing after Ohio State lost to Oregon. Here’s how the projected College Football Playoff rankings should shake out.

Week Two of the college football has season has once again brought a shakeup to the top four in college football. After Georgia knocked off Clemson last week, it looked like the top four could be locked in for a week two that on paper looked like it should stand pat. Instead, the Oregon Ducks made a statement.

Oregon went on the road and flexed their muscles with a 35-28 win at third-ranked Ohio State. So once again high up the rankings things are going to look different. The College Football Playoff rankings don’t come out until later in the year but it’s never too soon to project and as of right now, things look a lot different than they did before Week One.

College Football Playoff projections after Oregon stuns Ohio State in Week 2

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide didn’t have much of a challenge in Week Two as they hosted Mercer. Funny enough, Alabama gave up one more point against Mercer than it did against Miami in the previous week with a 48-14 win. There’s no change at the top here as long as the Crimson Tide keep rolling as expected.

2. Georgia Bulldogs

The other best team in college football took care of business at home against UAB. Georgia annihilated its competition to the tune of 56-7. As of this point through two weeks, there are two clear best teams in college football.

3. Oklahoma Sooners

A week after a meh win over Tulane at home, Oklahoma looked much better against lowly WCU. The Sooners did what they were supposed to do and didn’t play with their food. With Ohio State falling to Oregon, the Sooners should naturally slide up one spot.

4. Oregon Ducks

Hello, Oregon. Hello, Pac-12. Here’s where it gets interesting. The Ducks should theoretically move into the top four from 12th by virtue of beating the third-ranked team in the nation. Clemson could be a contender for this spot, but they also didn’t claim a top-five win. The Ducks should be rewarded for going on the road and taking care of business in a major way.

Missed The Cut

5. Iowa Hawkeyes

The Hawkeyes have been one of the most impressive programs through the first two weeks of the season and have two ranked wins to show for it. Iowa went on the road and defeated Iowa State this time out. While Iowa was racking up an impressive win, Notre Dame and Texas A&M struggled to beat Toledo and Colorado respectively. Cincinnati played Murray State, so give the nod to Iowa for starting the season as well as it could have hoped.

6. Clemson Tigers

The Tigers are that first team outside the bubble looking in. Clemson rolled over South Carolina State 49-3 as expected and looked much better offensively when it wasn’t facing Georgia. With as much volatility as there has been so far in the upper end of the rankings, it probably won’t be long until the Tigers land back in a top-four spot.
