Heisman candidate No. 3: Spencer Rattler, QB, Oklahoma

Spencer Rattler and Oklahoma got more than they bargained for against Tulane and the quarterback was partially to blame as he threw for 304 yards and scored two total touchdowns but also threw two picks. He re-established himself as a Heisman frontrunner, though, with a dominant performance over Western Carolina.

The second-year Sooners starter completed 20-of-26 passes for 243 yards with five touchdowns while barely playing two quarters worth of football. He was a cut above, as you’d expect, but now has to keep that arrow pointing up for the rest of the season if he wants to earn some hardware.

Heisman candidate No. 2: Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss

After breaking out last season in the first year under Lane Kiffin, Matt Corral is a bonafide superstar for the Rebels in the 2021 season. In the 54-17 win over Austin Peay, the Ole Miss signal-caller completed 12-of-33 passes for 281 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 35 yards.

Through two games, Corral now has 662 passing yards with six passing touchdowns and no interceptions to go with 90 rushing yards and another score. Ole Miss’ offense isn’t going to slow down and, as such, Corral isn’t going anywhere in the Heisman race.

Heisman candidate No. 1: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama

You could actually make the argument that Bryce Young was less impressive against Mercer than he was against Miami, as crazy as that may sound. In Week 2, he barely broke a sweat as he led the Crimson Tide by going 19-of-27 for 227 yards and three touchdowns. But this was Mercer and, well, that’s all Alabama needed from him.

But after lighting up Miami for 344 yards and four scores, Young has over 550 yards and seven touchdowns already. The youngster is picking up where Mac Jones left off and that could pave the way for the highly touted quarterback to run away with the Heisman Trophy this season.
