Saints sign Marshon Lattimore to historic contract extension after win over Packers
By John Buhler
Marshon Lattimore just got paid the big bucks by the New Orleans Saints in Week 1’s win.
In the minutes after the New Orleans Saints absolutely humiliated the Green Bay Packers in Jacksonville, their star cornerback Marshon Lattimore became a very wealthy man.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Lattimore and the Saints have agreed to a five-year, $96.7 million contract extension. It could be up to $100 million, with $68.3 million of that being fully guaranteed. If these numbers are correct then, Lattimore has just received the most amount of guaranteed money by a cornerback in NFL history. This is only his fifth season out of Ohio State.
The next time the Saints defensive backs go out for dinner, guess who will be picking up the bill?
Marshon Lattimore signs record-setting contract extension with the Saints
Given how well he has played in his first four seasons with the Saints, this type of extension makes all the sense in the world for New Orleans. Lattimore will not turn 26-years-old until May, so the Saints are locking themselves into getting every little bit of his prime before he exits it in his early-to-mid-30s. The Saints have given themselves a shutdown corner for the next half-decade.
The Saints may regress a tad without Drew Brees, but this defense kept the Packers in check.
