New England Patriots rookie quarterback threw his first career touchdown in Week 1 but when teammates tried to give him the keepsake he was all business.

Mac Jones is doing a good job of ticking all the boxes in his Patriots career. Get drafted? Check. Win the starting job over an incumbent veteran? Check. Throw a touchdown pass in Week 1? Check.

The rookie quarterback handled the first half of New England’s Week 1 battle against the Dolphins with the calm of a vet. So it fits he responded to his very first NFL touchdown pass with the same level of chill.

With a pass rusher bearing down on him up the gut, Jones delivered the ball to Nelson Agholor for a seven-yard score to put the Patriots ahead.

Jones clearly wasn’t sentimental about that ball. Multiple teammates tried to give it to him and he had zero interest.

It’ll be interesting to hear what Jones has to say about that moment if he’s asked about it after the game.

It might be his first career touchdown, but he and New England expect many more where that came from.

Jones led Alabama to a national championship in 2020 but he had to wait until No. 15 in the 2021 NFL Draft to hear his name called by the Patriots. It’s looking like that worked out just fine for the quarterback, who seems to fit New England like a glove.
