Urban Meyer is already dreaming of Texas, USC and Notre Dame

Urban Meyer might as well bail on the Jacksonville Jaguars for Texas, USC or even Notre Dame.

The Urban Meyer era down in Duval is off to an atrocious start, as the Jacksonville Jaguars look utterly toothless vs. David Culley and the Houston Texans.

While the Jaguars were expected to lose a ton of games this year, Houston was supposed to be the absolute worst team in football. The Texans were expected to end up with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft so they could draft Spencer Rattler out of Oklahoma. Instead, the Jaguars look like a downgrade from a year ago, and Meyer may have made a terrible decision here.

No, we would not be shocked if Meyer was already dreaming of lucrative college jobs like Texas, USC and Notre Dame instead of dealing with this hot mess in Jacksonville for another NFL Sunday.

Urban Meyer might as well leave for Texas, USC or Notre Dame at this point

This is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but we have seen Meyer bail on better situations than the one he has in Jacksonville before. He will leave a football team like a bad father does on his family for a pack of cigarettes, never to return. While Texas is not firing Steve Sarkisian after one season, no matter how bad it was in Fayetteville on Saturday night, USC is a complete joke under Clay Helton.

Of course, Meyer won’t go to USC because the athletic department wants to be in control rather than let an elite college coach do what he does. When your kicker gets ejected for targeting on the opening kickoff against a bad Stanford team and then loses at home, you don’t come back from that. USC should be open this offseason, but the university has too much pride to be good.

As for the Notre Dame gig, Brian Kelly has that thing humming. However, the Irish have barely survived the likes of Florida State and Toledo this season. It is a high-pressure situation in South Bend, but one Meyer could get over the top if Notre Dame has its doubts about Kelly. Keep in mind that Meyer considered Notre Dame, but took the Florida gig instead after “listening” to Lou Holtz.

Ultimately, Meyer is not going to leave the Jaguars in the middle of the night Bobby Petrino-style because he has some semblance of self-respect. Then again, eating cold pizza in the bowels of TIAA Bank Field after the Jaguars lose their fifth game in a row will get old fast. The grass may not be greener on the other side of the fence, but then again, teal is not exactly green. It is blue-ish.

If you are certain Meyer won’t bolt for top college jobs like USC this winter, you have a lot of faith.
