Bruce Feldman rules out one big name in USC coaching search
USC football is being linked to tons of head coaching candidates after firing Clay Helton but Bruce Feldman says Chris Petersen isn’t interested.
Between now and the end of the college football season, there will be dozens of candidates suggested for the vacant USC football job.
If you see Chris Petersen’s name, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic says to disregard it.
“No Chris Petersen in this USC search,” Feldman tweeted. “As we discussed in May, he’s not looking to jump back into the middle of the craziness of college football coaching.”
Chris Petersen is not interested in the USC coaching job
Feldman would have insider knowledge on Petersen. They work together on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff.
The former Washington head coach was linked to the USC job back in 2013. Either the Trojans weren’t interested or he wasn’t big on the idea of coming to a big media market, depending on who is telling the story.
Basically, it doesn’t seem like the best fit.
Another FOX employee, Bob Stoops, is also being mentioned as one of the many candidates, though Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell is gaining traction as a name to watch out for.
The Trojans named cornerbacks coach Donte Williams as interim head coach after firing Helton. He’ll presumably also have the chance to compete for the job as the season wears on. It should be quite the fall of intrigue in Los Angeles.
