Running Backs

Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints ($10,000)

McCaffrey picked up right where he left off as the Panthers’ workhorse in Week 1, with 187 total yards (98 rushing) on 30 touches (nine catches) against the New York Jets. Week 2 against the Saints is a tougher matchup, but Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers is not fully representative of what they will be against the run and defending running backs. Even with that, defending McCaffrey is a unique challenge.

McCaffrey is the most expensive running back on FanDuel this week, as he will be most weeks. But I’ll gladly pony up in Week 2.

Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers ($8,800)

For my second running back, I’m going to the other side of Panthers-Saints.

In some respect, Kamara’s Week 1 outing against the Packers looks disappointing–20 carries for 83 yards, three catches for eight yards and a touchdown. But considering a 38-3 win for the Saints that brought fourth quarter rest, and some of backup Tony Jones’ work (11 carries, one reception) should flow back to Kamara in Week 2. Assuming a closer game of course.

Going with two of the top three salaried running backs on FanDuel this week limits what else I can spend. So I’ll have to unearth value at wide receiver in particular.
