The Washington Football Team gave New York plenty of chances to win on Thursday, but the Giants insisted on losing in the worst way possible.
You could argue neither Washington nor New York were truly interested in winning on Thursday night.
There’s no arguing this though: The Giants deserve to be lambasted for the way they lost to WFT.
New York left points on the table thanks to Darius Slayton’s wide open drop in the end zone and a holding penalty wiping out a Daniel Jones touchdown.
Washington handed them a golden chance with a late interception when they were trying to run out the clock. The Giants were even closer to victory when WFT’s kicker missed a game-winning field goal in the final seconds.
He got a second chance because of an offsides by the NY special teams unit. You couldn’t script the ineptitude.
NFL Twitter utterly crushed the Giants for their ugly loss
Sum up that ending in one picture?

Both teams deserved to lose.
Two teams deserved to lose, but the Giants screwed up last.#NFC #EAST #COMEDY #CLASSICS

But the Giants deserved the L more.
a delay of game AFTER you call a timeout on 3rd & 2 at the 27

penalty pushed back to the 32
sacked & pushed back to the 38
so bad
Giants did everything you could possibly do to give that game away.

The Giants blew that game. Penalties. Drops.

This might be the worst coached stretch of football I've ever seen. Honestly

The Giants should be fired. Contracted. All of it.

When the Giants look back and try to figure out what cost them the division they will undoubtedly point to this game…and probably the next 15 games.

New York is now 0-2 to start the season. They had some positives to cling to if they want to, but the negatives will loom much larger.
Confidence in head coach Joe Judge is eroding. Daniel Jones remains a question mark. Saquon Barkley doesn’t look like himself. The defense looked vulnerable for a second week in a row.
Life is rough for the Giants right now and it’s not clear it’ll get any better.
