Minnesota Vikings players who deserve more snaps in Week 2
By Josie Rohach
2. Mackensie Alexander
Cornerback has been a problematic position for the Minnesota Vikings. They lost former first round pick, Jeff Gladney after he was indicted for a felony in the offseason, and they have struggled to find a group at the position who can be consistent for a few seasons now. Unfortunately, Week 1 seemed to be proof that the answer is still out there for Minnesota.
One way they may improve is to let Mackensie Alexander play a dominant role at the position. Alexander re-joined the team after spending last season in Cincinnati. He was on a healthy 50 of 69 snaps but seemed to outplay Bashaud Breeland who had 61. It has only been one week, but don’t be shocked if Alexander starts to get an edge over Breeland in playing time. Especially if Cameron Dantzler continues to be shut out of the conversation completely.
As a side note, there is not a single situation where Kris Boyd should be on the field while Alexander is on the sideline. Not for one snap. A gassed Alexander is better than any version of Boyd that steps out on the field, and the Vikings need to acknowledge that.
