When will the Packers consider trading Aaron Rodgers in-season?
After an offseason filled with uncertainty over his future combined with a 38-3 opening loss, QB Aaron Rodgers days with the Green Bay Packers are quickly ticking down.
It’s safe to say that Green Bay Packers last game of the 2020-21 season was initially expected to be QB Aaron Rodgers final game with the team. It was a drama-filled offseason where the entire NFL was left wondering if it would be Rodgers or Jordan Love leading the offense.
On July 29, Rodgers signed a reworked deal that made it appear as if his relationship with Green Bay was on the mend, but it’s not even two months later and speculations have never really ceased.
Green Bay Packers may consider trading Aaron Rodgers during the season
Rodgers expressed his discontent with the Packer’s front office after he wasn’t offered a contract extension after he won the 2020 NFL MVP Award. This came a little less than 10 months after Green Bay drafted Love in the first round of the 2020 draft. The writing has been on the wall for Rodgers and he thought that his performance last season would help to erase it, but perhaps it’s only been made bolder.
The Packers will face NFC North opponent Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 2 of the regular season. A loss to the Lions would shove Rodgers closer to the door out of Wisconsin.
Rodgers was already replaced in Week 1 and a permanent QB1 role for Love seems to be very close on the horizon. It’s too soon to evaluate how he’ll perform this season based off of one game, but don’t be too surprised if Aaron Rodgers in a new city come the Nov. 2 trade deadline, or perhaps even sooner.
It may be best to prepare for your goodbyes now, Green Bay. For real this time.
