When’s the last time Alabama lost when ranked No. 1?
By Ethan Lee
When was the last time a top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide team fell? Well, it’s been a few seasons.
The No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide are on the road and are set to face Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators. The Gators came close to beating Bama at the end of last season in the SEC Championship Game and they’re looking to avenge that loss by pulling off the upset today.
But when was the last time a top-ranked Alabama team fell? It’s been a few seasons, but it really hasn’t been that long.
When is the last time No. 1 Alabama lost?
The last time a No. 1 ranked Alabama team lost was when the Crimson Tide faced off against the Clemson Tigers on Jan. 7, 2019. The Tigers ended up rolling over Alabama, beating the Crimson Tide with ease and coming out on top 44-16. In that game, freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence took over while Tua Tagovailoa struggled against Clemson’s defense.
Mullen and the Gators will have their work cut out for them. In general, Saban’s Alabama teams don’t lose that often. In the 15 years he’s been in Tuscaloosa, Saban has only lost 23 games. On top of that, the Crimson Tide really doesn’t lose that frequently when it’s ranked this high.
But the Swamp can be a tough place to play. Historically this is one of the most difficult venues in the SEC for road teams to compete in. This is also the first true road test for Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young and we’ll see how he responds to the raucous crowd of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
