The No. 25 Michigan Wolverines take on Northern Illinois at home in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Michigan should come out with a third straight home win after this week to improve to a 3-0 record before facing Rutgers in Week 4. The Wolverines soundly defeated Washington last week, 31-10, and had another big 47-14 win over Western Michigan in Week 1. With momentum on their side, they have a good chance to continue their run.
Running back duo Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum need to find success this week against a lesser Northern Illinois run defense. Look for them to set the pace of this game on the ground and push Michigan through a dominant full-game performance.
The Northern Illinois Huskies have a tough task ahead of them after losing 50-43 to an unranked Wyoming last week. With an even more difficult game vs. Michigan, they’ll have to return to their Week 1 form when they upset Georgia Tech in a close 22-21 victory.
It will be key for the Huskies to slow down Michigan’s run game if they want a chance to win. They also need junior quarterback Rocky Lombardi to use his experience playing in Michigan when he was a member of MSU to keep the Wolverines on their toes. Though difficult, it won’t be impossible for Northern Illinois to pull off an underdog win and secure a 2-1 record.
