Florida gets upsetting injury news on Anthony Richardson for Alabama game
By John Buhler
Florida football fans should be upset about the latest Anthony Richardson injury news.
In their biggest game of the season, the Florida football team does not plan to play promising backup quarterback Anthony Richardson when the Gators take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Alabama is the No. 1 team in the nation, and Florida will need everything to go right if the Gators want to stun the Crimson Tide in The Swamp. Florida head coach Dan Mullen told CBS’ Jamie Erdahl that Richardson will only be available on Saturday as an emergency quarterback vs. Alabama. Emory Jones has gotten the start in the biggest game of the week in college football.
Richardson is being held out due to a hamstring injury he apparently injured back in the spring, but re-aggravated in Florida’s blowout win over South Florida on an 80-yard run.
Anthony Richardson injury update: Florida QB to be held out vs. Alabama
This has to be maddening for Florida fans. The Gators are the No. 11 team in the nation, and their best shot at upsetting the Crimson Tide at home is with the electrifying, playmaking ability of Richardson. Jones may be the more polished of the two passers, but he may not have the gas that Richardson does to get the Gators over the top. This feels like Florida is already admitting defeat.
If Florida gets embarrassed by Alabama, expect for Mullen to be raked over the coals for this.
