Even though Texas A&M didn’t have Haynes King, the Aggies had no issues thanks to Zach Calzada.

The Texas A&M Aggies might be missing the quarterback who led their offense to start the season, but this team has responded well with a new signal caller. Texas A&M has enjoyed plenty of success on offense against the New Mexico Lobos thanks to Aggies quarterback Zach Calzada.

So far against the Lobos, Calzada has completed 19-of-33 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns. He has tossed an interception, but that hardly takes away from how well Calzada has done while leading A&M’s offense.

This sort of performance is a significant improvement over how Calzada did a week ago. He was stunningly mediocre when Texas A&M faced the Colorado Buffaloes in Denver a week ago, but the Aggies offense as a whole had big issues.

Texas A&M football: Aggies thrive on offense despite missing Haynes King

When starting quarterback Haynes King went down with a leg injury against the Buffaloes, Calzada stepped in and threw for 183 yards and one touchdown while completing 18-of-38 pass attempts.

That was enough to help A&M win, but it wasn’t all that impressive when considering how the Aggies are supposed to make things interesting in the SEC West this season.

If Texas A&M is going to compete for the SEC West this season, Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies will need their quarterback to play at a high level against tough competition.Ā Calzada showing improvement against New Mexico is a good sign for the Aggies.
