Tyrann Mathieu is just as impressed as us watching LSU football star Derek Stingley Jr.

From Tyrann Mathieu to Derek Stingley Jr., the LSU football program has largely been defined by outstanding defensive backs who were the jersey No. 7.

The No. 7 jersey tradition began once Mathieu wore the number to honor Patrick Peterson. Though it has not always been a number reserved strictly for DBU, as running back Leonard Fournette wore it, Stingley proudly wears it today while he dominates for the Bayou Bengals. Mathieu is back home watching Stingley and LSU take on the MAC’s Central Michigan Chippewas.

Look for Stingley to be playing on NFL Sundays like his idol Mathieu as early as next season.

LSU football: Tyrann Mathieu loves watching Derek Stingley Jr. dominate

While Mathieu was arguably the most impactful defensive back to every play for LSU, he did not go in the first round of his respective NFL Draft. Off-the-field issues were the only reason for that. Since he got his head on right, he has been a phenomenal player in the league now with the Kansas City Chiefs. Mathieu is a shining beacon of what it takes to wear the No. 7 jersey at LSU.

Though his NFL future is so incredibly bright, we must appreciate Stingley while he is with LSU.
