Will the Bears start Justin Fields or Andy Dalton in Week 3?
Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy will have quite the decision to make for Week 3 in going with either Andy Dalton or Justin Fields.
In a close 20-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, rookie signal-caller Justin Fields saw extensive action after Andy Dalton went down with an injury. While no one was rooting for Dalton to go down, Chicago Bears fans have been waiting to see what Fields can do with the ball in his hands.
It was a bit of an up-and-down day for the former Ohio State star, as Fields finished the victory going 6-of-13 for 60 yards and one interceptions, while adding 31 rushing yards. So, will Fields get the starting nod next week, or will it be Dalton who lines up under center?
Justin Fields could start Week 3 for Chicago if Andy Dalton can’t suit up
This decision may end up being an easy one for Nagy if Dalton isn’t healthy enough to play. The veteran quarterback went down with a knee injury on Sunday. However, it’s since been announced by Matt Nagy that Dalton didn’t suffer an ACL injury.
With that said, Dalton is still set to undergo an MRI on Monday to see what exactly is going on with his knee. Should he miss some time, Fields would then be given the keys to the offense to showcase what he’s made of.
In Sunday’s win, Fields made some rookie mistakes, but some drops by his receivers really hurt him too. Allen Robinson owes Fields an apology after he dropped what would have been the QB’s first passing touchdown of his career.
We should find out Monday whether or not Dalton will be able to play in Week 3 or not. If he is sidelined, the Fields show will be ready to take center stage.
