Jets have to be terrified after Zach Wilson throws 4 INTs
Zach Wilson was dreadful for the New York Jets, tossing four interceptions in a terrifyingly bad performance against the New England Patriots.
The New York Jets had a lot of high hopes for Zach Wilson after they drafted him No. 2 overall in April. A solid Week 1 performance against Carolina was encouraging, but all of that progress has been washed away after Wilson was a complete disaster against the New England Patriots in Week 2.
Wilson cost the Jets the game by flinging footballs like he was throwing beads at Mardi Gras, tossing four interceptions on a litany of terrible decisions in a 25-6 loss. All four picks were the result of poor decisions from Wilson, although one did go through the hands of receiver Corey Davis on a high throw.
The Patriots scored points off of Wilson’s first two interceptions and he cost the Jets an opportunity at a field goal with his third, which saw him under throw a receiver down the sideline to lead to an easy pick for New England.
The last interception was also brutal as Wilson essentially lobbed up a Hail Mary on 2nd and 28, a poor decision with no one even close to coming down with the football.
Wilson’s mistakes have stood out in comparison to fellow rookie Mac Jones, who didn’t take a lot of chances but hasn’t made the mistakes to cripple his team like Wilson has today. The Jets as a whole didn’t play terribly with an inspired defensive effort early on but the constant mistakes from their rookie quarterback essentially threw the game away.
It may be tempting to overreact to one game but what Wilson put on tape against the Patriots is alarming since he showed no real care for the football by taking reckless chances over and over again. The Jets don’t have a veteran quarterback on the roster to challenge Wilson so games like this could lead to him developing bad habits that end up damaging his ability to become a reliable starter in the NFL.
