Joe Burrow may need a head coach who can elevate him better than Zac Taylor

After beating the Minnesota Vikings in overtime last week, Zac Taylor’s Cincinnati Bengals looked completely lost on the road vs. the Chicago Bears, at least until the fourth quarter. Joe Burrow threw three straight interceptions in the second half to eventually cost his team the game. While the Bengals made it a close one very late, this was a major red flag game for Taylor in Cincinnati.

Even though their three division rivals all have more on-field talent than them, the Bengals were a team many people thought would be competitive this season, and possibly push for .500. While they can still do that, we have to wonder if a better head coach than Taylor will get this team over the top. More importantly, we need to judge this hire strictly on how well Burrow performs now.

While they may have a bit of a Nebraska connection, Burrow’s connection with someone like Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady is stronger. He may only be in his early 30s, but Brady projects as the next hotshot head-coaching candidate. Though Cincinnati is notoriously cheap and will never eat a penny, they may want to move on from Taylor if they can get Brady.

Keep an eye on other coaches trying their best to get fired in the late-afternoon window games.
